Too Young To Have An Opinion?

I suddenly realised my blog is not as private as I thought it was.

More people read it than I thought. But I do love the hits and I don’t mind anyone reading my entries or more recently, watching my over-the-top videos.

I had a conversation with a friend who means the world to me today. He said his friends thought my blog is too exposed for my age.

My entries are too explicit for this girl of a lifespan of only twenty one years.

I am not offended at all but it got me thinking…

Is it?

But the big question is, do I mind being thought that way?

Afterall, my blog is first and foremost, the outlet of the products of MY mind. This is where you get a brief glimpse of who I am.

I can say this and I will say this.

Do I have to be 25 and married to write about sex and love?

Do I have to be 28 maybe, to write about my vagina, the penis, my favourite sex position, my love for the water pressure and orgasms?

Do I have to be 30 with experiences of one night stands, divorce, heart-wrenching relationships to write about men, birth control pills, my stand on abortion and pre-nuptial agreement, periods and pms?

Do I have to be significantly older than my age to write about any of these which I may or may not have experienced?

Can’t I be 21, had sex, am sexually active, sexually aware and be open about it?

Do my thoughts, opinions, beliefs, feelings, fears, insecurities have to be constrained by the two digits that I call my age?

Or should I start considering people’s opinions about my blog and write about things my age?

Like my studies. My dreams for the future. My mummy. My daddy. My brother. My daily routines. The food I eat today. The places I go today. The books I read today.

Are those what you want to read? Are those the reasons why you visit my blog again and again?

I seriously don’t know. Because you tell me.

But wait… isn’t this my blog to begin with?

You are right about that. You might be 21 or 61 for anyone to care, but to judge someone just because he/she is perceived young by social standard is akins to being a religious bigot.

what if you tells whoever that reads your blog that you are a married woman with 3 kids and in your late 20’s? Would that be more acceptable to write about your sex/awareness/favourite position?

I think not, as then, you will get a new sets of lecture about “please act your age, you’re a mother of 3″.

i am a former malaysian citizen myself. i now live mostly in australia. I left almost 20 years ago with family. in that time, ive seen malaysia change so much but in some areas, not at all.

to make a point, im going to tell you about an article released here in australia by the ABC, the national TV station, regarding Singaporeans and love. To get to the point, women have come very far in the past 20 years. Theyve become independant and strong individuals. Men, however, and this is a generalisation, havent evolved as much and still want the past where women were subservient to them. That kind of bigotry is rife in Malaysia still, again a generalisation.

So missy, all I can say is, “be yourself girl…ahem…i mean woman.” You are 21, and technically in western countries you are now considered an adult who is free to vote, free to make decisions on her own, free…..

So go do what you are FREE to do with yourself, your life. dont let anyone tell you any different.
