Attempted Car Theft
Less than half a year after the break-in at my house, the thief/thieves came again!
And this time, to steal my car!
$#%!#%#!$
Three days ago, around 4 in the morning when I was just getting ready for bed, my neighbour’s dog started barking really loudly. Darlink being the busydog that he is, began to scratch at my room door wanting to be let out. I opened the door and he ran to my front entrance barking violently. Thinking it was just the garbage men outside, I went to calm Darlink down.
But as I looked out towards my house, I realised that my gate was fully opened! Surprised, I first thought that it was my brother. So I slid open my door and called out in Mandarin “Brother, why you driving out my car so early in the morning?”
It was only then I realised the guy standing next to my car wasn’t my brother at all. Caught by surprise, the guy jumped into my car and tried to start my car. At this point, I knew my car was being stolen so I ran to my brother’s room and started banging on his door all the while screaming my head off.
Till today, my hands still hurt from banging on the door so hard.
Back to the story, by now I heard my car engine revving. I seriously thought the thief was going to get away with my car! But as my brother ran out along with me, we saw the guy taking off on foot! I guess he couldn’t start my car.
You know the sound your car makes when your battery dies and you try to start the car… that was the sound my car made when the thief was trying to get it started.
Thank God my car has a security immobiliser!
Anyway, the thief got away. My brother and I didn’t have a proper weapon so we were apprehensive about chasing him. Even as we were at the road in front of our house, we were fearful the thief was not alone and could have backup.
The spare key for my car is actually missing so we believe that the car thief is the same thief who broke into my house five months ago. Attached to the key is also my car alarm so that could probably be why he opened my car door so easily. I am just very relieved that I hadn’t brought the spare key to service the security number for the car to release the immobiliser.
What a fucking bastard. If you ever come back, I’ll get my friends to go after you! And this time I won’t fucking panic and turn the porch lights on so I can see your fucking face. And I’ll have you pay me back my cameras and all that stuff you stole from me, you thief!
…
I’ve been so paranoid these days after the incident. When a thief wants to steal your car, he doesn’t just go “Hey! I want to steal a car tonight!” He plans it, learns your schedule, watches you and waits for the right time.
To know that I’ve been watched and could have possibly been attacked if this idiot had so much an inch of irrational courage, scares the living shit out of me. I’m appalled at the dangers I put myself in, you know… taking my sweet time opening my gate while leaving my car engine on or leaving my gate unlocked at times to save me some convenience while taking the garbage out.
I am so stupid.
Because of this, I’ve been seriously thinking of taking my friends’ advice and move out of this seemingly jinxed house.
Though a close friend reminds me that “Safety is not in location. It is in God.”
Yet I still can’t help but be just a little worried.
